Moonstone die - Christmas Town

Hello there! I was recently asked by Hunky Dory to 'test-drive' a couple of their Moonstone dies. Now this is way out of my normal comfort zone - I am not a user of dies - but I thought I would give them a whirl to see what I could do. What did I have to lose other than time?

This post is about the christmas-town-moonstone die... When it arrived I confess I was a little bamboozled - I didn't quite understand how to make it work - then I read the instructions and it suggested using with a specific card blank... now given that I didn't have any of them I set to work making my own version by scoring three lines at 9.5cm distance on A4 card - I cut done the third line and then created a tri fold card which I then cut down diagonally on two sections. I then had a play with the main dies - this is the first card I made:

I used all five dies on this card - I needed to borrow my mums A4 diecutting machine to make this - it was fun and the dies cut easily. Once I had cut the three edges I added some colouring and some coloured cards behind some areas. I also added a distress oxide inky sky.

The second card I made was using the tri fold card as before but this time I only used 4 of the dies to create the card. Again I added a distress oxide sky.

I wanted to see how I could change things up and just use my small base sizzix diecutting machine - I did just that with this third sample - I created the background then added the diecut of the mountains. Next I used stamps from IndigoBlu to complete the card.

Overall I think the dies are fun to use and they cut well. They have many possibilities, especially when combined with stamps. Thanks to HunkyDory for sending me this die to test drive!

  6. It certainly seems to be a complex set of dies but the cards you have created illustrate them beautifully Rachel. Well done you! Hugs, Anne xx

  8. Found them... Yes, I do see what you mean... I can see lots more use for these dies - I love the little row of houses and the dramatic mountain scenery, especially against the dark shadows of your snowy night sky. I really like the simplicity of using just the mountains in the polar bear one at the end.
