Hello lovely blog friends - thankyou so much for your kind words on my last post - I have more news today - Shaun went on the urgent transplant list yesterday - we had a meeting with the transplant coordinator and she explained the procedure and the likely timings too. It seems that the average wait on the urgent list is about 6 weeks but it could be anytime from now. Shaun is apparently in a good strong position from his blood type and tissue type. We now have to sit and wait - and meanwhile Shaun can get stronger. The immunosuppressant drugs that he will be on after the transplant sound pretty awful but its the price to be paid for a chance at life. The average heart transplant patient lives 13 years - but there are people who have had transplants up to 30 years ago so we just have to wait and see what the future holds for us. Its very scary and I think there's an emotional rollercoaster ahead - but we'll ride it.
Onto card stuff - there's a new theme for the Christmas card club today - I'm hoping its a christmas deer because thats what I did! Its CAS and my first attempt with my spectrum noir pencils - I think I have a lot to learn!
Big hugs all!
(first use of spectrum noir pencils)

Rachel, what great news. Now from a mum of a kidney transplant patient, which is I know not the same as a heart one. But just to say you are right about the immune drugs, yet as you say they are the chance of life, Chris our son has had two transplants and he has good times and bad, but he works has a lot of fun with his two little girls, he has to take the drugs that give him that life - a small price to pay in his eyes. You are going on a very emotional journey with it's up and downs, so again you have to look after yourself to be strong enough to manage. If it works out about the 6 weeks wait, you should have Shaun home by Christmas and what a wonderful present that would be. Love today's card, but most of all just the wonderful news was lovely to read. Big (((( hugs)))) to you all. Hazel xx
ReplyDeleteDarling Rachel, I pray for the best and successful transplant ever for Shaun. Yes the roller coaster ride will be hell at times but the end result and love will be worth it. [I am on a rollercoaster with my dying dad so know what you are up for] Love and prayer fixes it all, and we all have plenty of that for you....Look after yourself and family as well as you will need to be the strongest of all and take each day as a blessing...xxx
ReplyDeleteyour card is lovely too...xx
The Journey is the Start
Oh Rachel this is good news that Shaun is on the list and hopefully won't have too long to wait. With the love of his family behind him he has made an amazing recovery from the desperate situation a few weeks ago so he is obviously a fighter. Stay strong and firm in your belief and I am sure you will be able to face what lies ahead and meet it head on. You have been through a terrible time the last few weeks but I can always feel your optimism and cheerfulness coming through, you are a credit and I am sure your family are all so proud of you. Big hugs to you, Lucy, Penny and Shaun!! Your card is fab too!!!! Big Hugs, Susan x

Fabulous news. i am sure you are all anxious for this to be done and your new lives together to start again. Yes, it will be new and different but you will all be together throughout this and that is the key. You have been his rock and know you will continue to be so...but once the surgery is done, that new path will be found together!
ReplyDeleteGreat card...I do not know how you find the time, girl. Well done you to accomplish this! Your image is a cutie!
A lovely card Rachel. Great news about Shaun, It will certainly be a roller coaster but he is on the list now.

I am really pulling for your family huni and I really hope was Hazel has said comes true for you and your beautiful family. Fab card, well done on getting one made and make sure you take some time out to just rest or reco-operate huni - it is going to take some time and you must be careful of looking after you too Karen x
ReplyDeleteYou certainly are both on a rollercoaster of emotions right from the beginning of this difficult time, but it's amazing what strength can be found at times like this. Praying that it won't be long before Shaun gets the transplant he needs and so glad that things seem to be heading in the right direction for a good, successful outcome and, hopefully, many years ahead, even though it will involve further difficult times getting used to the necessary drugs etc. As for your card, Rachel, it is beautiful - so perfect for Rita's CCC challenge and I'm glad that you are able to absorb some time into a little crafting - it is so necessary to look after yourself as well as your girls and crafting is a good outlet. Lots of love and hugs. (Oh, and if you have time to link I'd love to see this card at CHNC challenge extra for October) xx
ReplyDeleteEeeeeek! SO so so adorable! What a wonderful card, Rachel. Sending you mahoooosive hugs.
